World Water Forum “ Istanbul “ 20 March 2009
INVITATION
Launch of the GWP/INBO Handbook on Integrated Water Resources Management in Basins
If you intend to participate in the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul, the Global Water Partnership and the International Network of Basin Organisations are pleased to invite you to the official launch of their joint Handbook for Integrated Water Resources Management in Basins.
The Handbook will be presented on Friday 20th March 2009 in Kağit Hane (Amphitheatre 3) in Sütlüce between 19:00 and 19:30, with interventions from:
- Ms Letitia A. Obeng, Chair of the Global Water Partnership - GWP,
- Mr László Kóthay, Chair of the International Network of Basin Organizations - INBO,
- Mr Andras Szöllösi-Nagy, Secretary of UNESCO International Hydrological Programme,
- Mr Jean-Louis Borloo, French Minister of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable development and Land planning.
The presentation will be followed by a cocktail in the hall of Amphitheatre 3, between 19:30 and 20:30.
The Handbook aims to provide guidance for improving the governance of freshwater resources. It articulates the links between challenges and IWRM responses; suggests ways of setting up or modernizing basin organizations to facilitate the adoption of the IWRM approach; and is a practical and user-friendly guide with many examples of experiences in river, lake and aquifer basin management.
It is one outcome of the collaboration between the GWP and INBO networks to facilitate the adoption of better and more sustainable water resources management and is expected to help catalyze positive change for sustainable development.
The preparation of the Handbook was supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France, and was coordinated by a Task Force of experts from INBO and GWP regional Networks.
